Stocking questions

Postby gavinh87 » Mon Dec 21, 2015 12:55 pm

Hi guys, I'm in need of stocking ideas. At the moment my tank has x4 saulosi x2 yellow labs and a metriaclima zebra ( I think) of some sort. He's an angry git whatever he is! And a couple of what are supposed to be maison reef zebra but they are very small <5cm so I cannot tell yet and given the source they could be anything!

I have thinned out this tank quite a bit as I had a lot of incompatible species in there my fish came from the infamous "Kim" of Birmingham.

The tank is a 450l juwel vision running the standard internal filter and a fx6 so filtration isn't a problem. I'd like a good mix of colour but not absolute chaos that it was before. I've seen a few videos on here and for the most part they seem fairly peaceful.

I was thinking of a mainly saulosi tank with a few bigger "fancy" mbuna? How many fish should I looking at to fill this?

This is also a question for Tony/Claire, what are your deliveries like over the xmas holidays?

Hi Gavin, sorry for the delay in replying.

I have a 450 and I have about 35 ( peacock/hap/mbuna mix) fish in there and its still under stocked, if you truly want a lower aggression level in your tank, you will need ALOT of mbina.

last delivery day before Christmas is tomorrow so any orders need to be tonight or really really early in the morning tomorrow. We will be back to posting again on the 28th. ( I think )

How does this look with regards to compatbility?

My current stocking is
x3 yellow tail acei
x2 yellow labs
x1 unknown zebra
x2 maisoni reef (although very small and could turn out to be anything)
x1 Pundamilia nyererei (Ruti Island)
x1 crabro

Many thanks.

That seems fine. I would say you will need more if you want to stock your tank top minimum aggression.

Give us a ring to discuss etc 07775506898 before you fully place the order. The compatibility is fine though.

Thanks Clare, will do. Regarding delivery, if I order on the 29th when can I expect to receive them?
Yeah I will be adding more over the coming weeks, spreading the cost keeps it under the Mrs' radar!
Do you have any suggestions regarding stocking or simply adding more of each species?

Ordering anytime on the 29th would get them up you Before 12am new years Eve. Regarding future stock. This will keep you going for a while. Watch your tank and choose what you like the most and add to the group. :)

No pics yet, battling with a water clarity issue. Going to add some carbon or purigen to remove these little bits floating around in the tank.
Fish arrived perfect and before 10am! The peacocks were almost fully colored out of the box they put my other fish to shame.
The female hongi had a load of fry in her bag!!!! The male hongi appears to be sulking at the moment as he rarely comes out but im sure he will in time.

Very happy with the fish and delivery and me and my brother shall be ordering again in the coming weeks :tu:

Excellent can't wait to see photos. Filter floss in your filter as the last thing the water goes through before going into the tank is good for the job.
