White Sand

Postby Edwink » Wed Apr 22, 2015 10:31 am

Hi, my tank is now up and running nut because i bought it second hand as a full set i am now making it my own by changing a few things. At the moment i have coral sand but the big chunks 10mm i believe. And i really want white sand. What sand would be best to use? The PH of my tap water is 7.9, does this mean i still need coral sand or aragonite sand for a boost or will standard aquarium sand do?

I simply used the coral sand from when I changed from Marines but can't remember the brand - simply bought it from Maidenhead Aquatics so I'm sure its pretty mainstream. Aragonite is a sandy substrate available in several colors (inc white) and grain sizes. I understand it’s quite expensive, so you may want to consider another choice if you have a large tank to fill.

7.9 is fine (assume that's a stable reading?) - mine hovers around the 7.9 - don't forget best to measure PH out of the tap 24 hrs later.
