whats better, diy sump with overflow or canistor filter?

Postby joepaul » Fri Jul 13, 2012 2:47 pm

hi guys. as the title says. i have a 4ft 130l/31g tank with 4 yellow labs and 6 cherry barbs and a plec. my current filter is struggling. so id like your opinions. what do you think would be better... a diy overflow with wet/dry sump or external canistor filter? im thinking towards the sump and id get the added bonus to hide my heaters too. thanks guys.

get an inline heater from hydor and use a decent external filter :tu: or preferably 2 smaller externals. A couple eheim pro 2224's is my favourite setup for a tank. plenty of media and enough of a water turn over to deal with your stock. I hade 2 of them running a tank of 30 adult mbuna for a good year or so before i started experimenting with other filters. :shhh:

If you want movement maybe try eheim pro 2226's they have a faster flow. Both filters are amazing quality, never go wrong and completely silent... not something you'll get from a sump. noisy things
Sometimes i wake up grumpy... sometimes i let her sleep in...
