Just measured tank and give or tank an inch, that is bang on :)

I always said an extra inch wasn't a problem

Tell me about it. Most of the middle of my tank I can see egg crate now where they have turfed it all up. Grrrr. It's becoming a battle now and they seem to keep winning

I have never used egg crate. I learned my lesson having rocks on the sand but never had a problem "touch wood", even though that earth tremor the other year.

The rate in which my fish dig, egg crate would be naked all over the place.

Egg crates

That's what I'm experiencing now. Egg crate visible in pockets under the centre rocks. But I jut push it back under when I clean the glass or do a water change.
