What's The Best Substrate

Postby Irishblue16 » Tue Jan 26, 2016 4:23 pm

Ok guys

What's the best substrate for Mbuna? I currently have coral sand, but heard the Eco-Sand was really good and also benefits the colours of the fish. What's your opinions?

I went all out and got £90 worth of caribsea african cichlid mix.
Completely pointless, it did naff all for my water. Its down to what you like the look of and whether its fine enough for the fish to sift through but not too fine that it gets sucked into your filters. (play sand does this and has been known to destroy impellers as it turns into a paste like substance.

Its pointless as in terms of hardening the water etc whatever properties it has soon disappear after a few water changes. It looks nice mind, but not £22 a bag nice!

I've always used coral sand - be keen to see how Eco sand enhances the fish as opposed to coral...should you go that route.
