Hi Nathan, yes you do see them from time to time, the problem is finding nice fish.
I found them a little delicate and kept them as you would for any other east African riverine species.
Try and find a breeder and buy a dozen or so.
I wasnt very successful with these but they were a nice little fish.

Are they as violent as their reputation says they can be and do they need to be kept in high numbers Paul?

how do you know if the ones for sale are the basin ones or the Egyptian ones if not stated,

Ask for photos to id them, ask the seller if they know which varient or where they come from.

Im not really in a position to give advice on these, they are closely related to the Egyptian mouthbrooder.
They are not present in Lake Victoria itself but the rivers around Lake Albert, Lake Victoria and the upper Nile River.

These sometimes get mixed up with or traded as Pseudocrenilabrus philander dispersus. I have no idea if this is the same fish ???
Give them a go if you can find some :handgestures-thumbup:
