Rio Choluteca - Orange-finned Convicts

Postby Didgeridoo » Thu Nov 24, 2011 6:58 am

Hey gang,

Well I was big into the Central American cichlids there for a while and had a blast. This is the only Central I'm keeping these days. I managed to find a small group of juveniles of arguably one of the most colorful of the "convict" family, the Rio Choluteca variety. These stay small, getting to only 3 inches, and the adult female coloration is easily distinguishable, exhibiting vibrant orange in the fins and body.

I currently have a trio, 1m 2f, and the dominant female is only 1.5 inches right now but is already stunning. Here's a few pics of her.

She's tough to get pics of unfortunately and my camera sucks. But you get the idea. =)

Haha... I've thought that as well... and I think severums are the same!

I like this orange finned variety but in all honesty I prefer the normall colouration. Is this a naturally occurring variation or is it line bred?

Thanks!
They're a natural occurring variant from Rio Choluteca. These are F2's. They don't get overly large, only about 3" unlike the run-of-the-mill cons you get in the shops that can reach 5"+. I'll try and snap some more photos and of the male too.
