Plec attacking Malawis! Help please.

For many years I have always had plecs in my Malawi tanks and never had an issue. Anyhow, I have just witnessed behaviour from a Bristlenose plec that I have never seen before and that is trying to ambush malawi as they swim by. I witnessed the plec swim up from the sand and attach itself to a medium size female red empress who managed to struggle it off. The same plec was at it again only minutes later, again trying to attach itself to fish as it swam by in an ambush action.

Anybody else witness this and if so what were your actions. I, like everybody else need algae eaters, but what if any is the alternative?

I suddenly want rid of my Bristlenose plecs :swear:

Just to further add that there are only 2 bottom dwellers in the entire 350 litre tank. They are medium size Bristlenose plecs that never grow large - infact very small for a plec.

I feed them a varied diet of cucumber, catfish pellets, algae wafers etc. I also feed after the lights have been out for over an hour so its not that they don't have a varied diet and are not in a big enough tank. Slime coat seems to be the meal of choice right now

I have Bristlenoses with my Malawis and the only time the Malawis have to 'watch out' is when the big male is nursing fry.

I would guess that the Bristenose is probably not hurting the Cichlid.
