Clown Loach

Postby Lizzie » Sat Feb 16, 2013 11:01 pm

Hi all, can someone tell me whether you can have clown loach with mbuna cichlids. I'm looking for something a little different to help clean the bottom of my tank and do particularly like these for their colours. Thanks

Although not exactly playing the rule book , some people do keep these with Malawi's and they are fine , just remember they are a scale-less fish so if you ever needed to treat your tank a lot of treatments can only be used at half dosage .

Thank you Tony, I will bear this in mind. I'm just giving it some thought as i want something a bit more colourful to compliment the colours of the mbunas :)

has anyone heard of malawi's being aggressive towards them. As i dont want them to be bullied and nipped. Also what water conditions do they prefer? is it similar to malawi's or can they adapt. I know some fish are more delicate to water conditions than others.

Thanks Kevin79, I have since done some research elsewhere and have decided against the idea. I'm glad yours are all getting along fine though, lets hope that continues for you. :text-thankyoublue:

I have kept them with Malawi's years ago and they came out with white spot alot so I stopped. These were only small at the time.

I have known alot of people keep bigger, older clowns in with their fish with no problems. Again its not really a done thing but it has been done with no problems. :tu:

Thanks Clare, One of the things i found out was about the white spot problem. Malawi's can tend to stress clown loaches out alot which causes white spot so i decided not a good idea especially after what Tony had said regarding treatments. Thanks everyone for your help.
